Common causes of Migraine

Migraine is a neurological condition characterised by recurring headaches that can range from moderate to severe in intensity.

It is a complex condition with various contributing factors that can trigger an attack. Some of the main causes include:

  • Genetics: People with a family history of migraine are more likely to develop this condition, indicating a genetic link.
  • Hormonal changes: Fluctuations in estrogen levels, such as during menstruation, pregnancy, or menopause, can trigger migraines.
  • Food triggers: Certain foods and drinks have been linked to migraines, including caffeine, alcohol, aged cheese, processed meats, and monosodium glutamate (MSG).
  • Environmental factors: Bright lights, strong smells, changes in weather or altitude can all act as triggers for migraine attacks.
  • Stress and anxiety: Emotional stress, tension, and anxiety can contribute to the onset of migraines.
  • Sleep disturbances: Lack of sleep or irregular sleeping patterns can increase the risk of migraine attacks.
  • Medications: Certain medications, such as birth control pills or vasodilators, have been associated with causing migraines in some individuals.
  • Underlying health conditions: Some health conditions, including obesity, high blood pressure, and depression, have been linked to an increased risk of developing migraines.
  • Head or neck injuries: A previous head or neck injury can increase the likelihood of experiencing migraines.
  • Smoking or alcohol consumption: Both smoking and excessive alcohol consumption have been found to be potential triggers for migraines.

I was suffering from sciatic pain. I tried physiotherapy treatment and started a specific exercise regime - but the pain persisted.I then decided to see an osteopath - Anna - who proved to be fantastic. What I like about Anna's approach is that she constantly reconsiders my symptoms, and then selects the most appropiate therapy. She always explains how and why she chooses it.Anna used massage, manipulation and acupuncture with great results. After 4 sessions I am now pain free and I will continue with maintenance treatment to avoid reccurence of my problems.I always enjoy seeing Anna. She listens carefully to feedback , she is positive and has great interpersonal skills.Hava
Just had a first appointment with Anna for a longstanding knee, shoulder and finger issue via a recommendation from a friend which went really well. Pain free in my knee after massage and acupuncture. Would wholeheartedly recommend Anna Hale at the Henley Osteopaths. 👍👍
I have just had my first appointment with Anna and I’m just blown away with how wonderful she is. I’d almost given up hope with this aged decrepit body but she accomplished so much in one treatment I feel amazing and now feel there is an exciting way forward, thank you so much, see you very soon
Fantastic Osteopath. Narrowed in on my 6 month long issue almost immediately and explained all the various connections in my body that were causing my lower back pain. Managed to get acupuncture as part of treatment and feel great relief. Highly recommend Anna!
Response from the owner: Thank you for leaving a review and delighted I can get you back to a pain-free spine and pelvis.Alleviating your lumbar neuropathy by changing tissues by articulation and acupuncture should soon get you back to an easier lifestyle, despite your incredibly long office hours! 👏
Oh my goodness, Anna is a magician!Ive had shoulder pain for 8 months which I thought was a bad strain. Had 6 sessions of physio but nothing changed and I could not move my arm in a circle. Decided to try osteopathy and chose Henley Osteopaths. I nearly cancelled as I thought it was very unlikely to help, after all physio hadnt.Im so glad I didnt. Anna could feel immediately the problem and within 15 minutes I could move my arm all the way around. Nothing more to be said.ALWAYS try osteopathy and dont wait!Thank you Anna
Amazing! I went in with a locked up back that I have had for about 6 months, she did some amazing manipulation and acupuncture… walking out feeling like a new women… couldn’t get myself booked in again quick enough!!!
Response from the owner: It was lovely to meet you today and I’m so glad to see you bounce out with fluid pelvis and spine after such a long period of chronic pain!
Anna is absolutely amazing and such a lovely lady. I have been suffering for back and hip pain for years and couldn’t believe how much better I felt after just one session. I wish I had been to see her years ago.
Anna is a Godsend. She has helped me enormously over the years when I have had various injuries, or niggles. In just a few sessions I feel human again. Thank you Anna!
Response from the owner: Aaaa thanks Frankie! So glad to help your body work towards its optimum and thanks for taking the time to leave me a review!!x
Anna is definitely a 5 star osteopath. She has manic hands that mend me when I’m broken !! Highly recommend. Penny
Anna has fixed many problems that I have had over the years - including lower and upper back pain, locked shoulder and migraine headaches. Her holistic approach of looking at the overall person and focussing on the root cause means that a small number of appointments have been required to fix my problems. Anna's usage of osteopathy and acupuncture has in every case enabled me to rapidly get on with life.I have no hesitation in recommending Anna to treat a wide range of problems.
